New Hibs book will support work of Hanlon Stevenson Foundation

Author and journalist Isaac Callan is partnering with the Hanlon Stevenson Foundation for the launch of his new book, Hibernian Heroes: The Team That Ended 114-Years of Hurt.

The must-read Hibs story takes you behind the scenes with the players who finally ended the club’s painful wait for the Scottish Cup. A witty, personal and thrilling retelling of a momentous victory, this is the inside story of the greatest Hibs side in a generation. It is guaranteed to delight all Hibees, young and old alike.

To write the book, Callan drew on hours of exclusive new interviews with the players and staff who won the cup. From corporate directors to scouts and the legends who scored the goals that took Hibs over the line, this new account of that day in May is filled with the classic stories you know and love, as well as brand new, never-before-revealed anecdotes.

To launch the book, Callan is partnering with the Hanlon Stevenson Foundation for a fundraising event. On May 7, fans can purchase tickets to meet the author and hear from both the former head of football operations, George Craig, and former chief scout, Graeme Mathie, about rebuilding Hibs after relegation and taking them on the road to win the cup.

Subject to availability, at least one of the Scottish Cup winners will also make an appearance.

Tickets for the event will come with a signed copy of the book, and all proceeds from the launch will be donated directly to the Hanlon Stevenson Foundation. Additionally, Callan will donate 50 per cent of the royalties from all books sold to HSF and its fantastic work in the community.

“Paul Hanlon and Lewis Stevenson are the embodiment of Hibernian,” Callan said. “They enjoyed long, distinguished — and at times thankless — careers at the club, eventually taking their place among the greatest players to ever wear green and white. It is inspirational how they and all the other Hanlon Stevenson Foundation volunteers have given so much time and energy to help so many deserving causes and people. I’m honoured that a book celebrating their legacy can help contribute towards their ongoing work.”

Graeme Cadger, Chairman of Hanlon Stevenson Foundation said

“ On behalf of everyone at Hanlon Stevenson Foundation we thank Isaac very much for his magnificent gesture. The amount of planning and time he has spent on writing this book is incredible being based in Toronto couldn’t have made it easy. All done with a genuine passion for Hibernian a team that means so much to him. We are truly honoured he has chosen us to be the beneficiary of 50% of the proceeds”

Hibernian Heroes: The Team That Ended 114-Years of Hurt will be released in May and is available through all good bookshops.

Tickets for the book launch are on sale now.
