The Hanlon Stevenson Foundation Scholarship Programme is an initiative we have been working on for the last year.
Now we’re delighted to be in the position of being able to share some details on the progress made and our plans for the future.
Together, with a range of partners, we’re looking to identify young people we can assist in their football journey.
We aim to provide those involved with financial assistance that includes, but is not limited to
- Paying any subscription fees to youth clubs.
- Supplying necessary equipment.
- Covering travel expenses.
- Assisting with educational tutors.
- Arranging access to qualified nutritionists.
- Offering advice, in a number of areas, to their respective families, along with mentorship sessions with Lewis Stevenson and Paul Hanlon.
Graeme Cadger, HSF Chairman, said: “We are pleased to announce the Hanlon Stevenson Foundation Scholarship Programme, and are delighted to introduce Malek Zaid as our first inductee.
“Malek, who recently turned 17, arrived in Edinburgh from Libya eight years ago and came highly recommended to us by Tam Smith at Hutchison Vale.
“I can honestly say that I have never met a more humble and focused boy. If, for any reason, he doesn’t make it as a professional footballer, it won’t be for the lack of dedication and hard work. One of the many things that attracted us to Malek was his “Old School” ethos. He doesn’t play computer games etc, instead he is constantly outside with a ball practicing his skills much in the same manner as Pat Stanton, Peter Cormack and Alex Cropley did back in the day”
